Aidan

Aidan did something pretty neat today and I wanted to write it down before I forgot. I asked him to take his clothes upstairs to his room. Typically, he puts them on his bed or his "thinking chair" and I put them away while they are taking a bath. Tonight I went into his room to get Pj's and he had put everything away! He even put his shirts on hangers! Was so happy that he did this, you have no idea! Must have been the sushi he had for lunch today....extra brain and niceness power!
Thanks Aidan! Love you!

What my boys have taught me so far....

As one of 3 daughters in my family, I was venturing into the unknown when I had my sons. I grew up in a tutu and leotard wearing, doll playing, ballerina girls' house. We didn't particularly like to get dirty, well except my sister Heather! We were always in cute matching outfits, with the matching bows, socks and purse. And a good portion of the time, if we had a doll with us, it matched us too.

So when I was pregnant with Aidan, I started to wonder if I would know what do with boys. But luckily my mommy instincts have kicked in many times and my boys have taught me many things over the years. When they were little, they taught me to be quick while changing their diapers or I would be sorry! I have many fond memories of the spraying toward the ceiling if I wasn't quick enough or spraying a family member just because. I remember so many nights when I couldn't get enough of their snuggles and their smells. There is nothing better than a baby smell, especially when they are snuggled in close. It makes those sleepless nights kind of okay. I have learned to play cars and monster trucks. I have learned to appreciate the "boy" shows on television and movies. Growing up, I watched all the girly shows and still know most of the Disney Princesses names. But as I learned when we went to Disney on Ice this past year, my boys don't know many of their names. But we know all of the boy characters, especially Toy Story! I have helped build who knows how many towers and forts. I have picked up who knows how many "landing pads". My boys have decided it is fun to take all of the pillows and cushions off the couch in the front room and jump into the pit. They have taken all of the pillows off of Carson's bed and have jumped from one bed to the other.

As they have gotten older, I have learned more. I have been taught that if they are going in for a hug, they are likely to end with a tackle! Boys are so physical! I can't believe how much my boys love to wrestle but it is never in a mean state of mind....they are just playing. I don't know how many times I have asked Jason lately if this is normal behavior for boys. Aidan and Carson love each other, some days way deep down, but they are best buddies. I love listening to them on the monitor when they are playing in Carson's room. Whenever I hear an "uh oh", I sometimes wonder, but I no longer run to see what is going on. They need their space and need to figure some things out on their own. I have learned to let go a little over the past few years as the boys need to be tough and not be cuddled every time they have a hang nail or another small owie. I have learned that boys are just so much different than girls. But I wouldn't change my boys for anything. Both are very different from each other, but then they are very much the same.

Oh and the food they can put away is another story! Recently, we had pizza and pancakes for dinner. I asked the boys what they wanted for dinner. Carson said pancakes and Aidan said pizza. So I made both. Aidan ended up having 3 slices of pizza and 3 pancakes. These are the oatmeal pancakes that are very filling. Aidan also had yogurt, applesauce and cheese. Couldn't believe it when he asked for a snack after bath that night! The next day Carson followed in his brother's footsteps and had 3 bowls of cereal, 3 bowls of oatmeal, cheese and applesauce for breakfast! I can't even imagine what these boys will be eating when they are teenagers!

I have loved having boys for the past 5 years and can't wait to see what the future brings. I'm sure I have many more "boy" lessons ahead!
